From reform to status quo, all our presidential candidates are looking for change. The panhandlers of change promote every type of 'change' from demolition to to a light dusting. Every imaginable change is promoted except one. From Hillary Clinton to Ron Paul and everyone in between, not a single 'change' candidate even whispers the absolute required necessity for verifiably accurate elections to insure change, or that the change is controllable by The People.

Whether one believes what our government tell US that voting is secure, or believes voting experts with evidence that voting is fraudulent, how is America harmed by insuring a 100% secure and accurate election process? America is only harmed by a secret, insecure and fraudulent vote count.

Secure, verifiable voting insures America's will is enforced. Insecure secret voting insures that those controlling the vote will rule America. Clearly, this single isolated issue controls every aspect of government and the American people.

Should not the first words out of any candidates mouth be... "Fellow Citizens: If you want to see me elected, The First Thing We Need to Do Is Insure Voting Is 100% Secure and Accurate. After all, we want to make sure each one of your votes for me counts. blah, change, blah, change...").

Ron Paul (I am and recommend Ron Paul for president 08 as the lesser of known evils - that must be bound by the chains of the (Entire Constitution). not as a our perfect savior (although he could be if remembers some vital portions of The Bill of Rights and parts of The Constitution that 'conservatives' don't particularly like and deny while they scam under the guise of Constitutionalists and God).

As Ron Paul supporters clearly see, the powers that be lie, slander, omit, scam, etc, et al, whenever and wherever they can about RP. The powers that be also control the vote (37 States at last count). The powers that be will be shown for their tyranny in thin air money financial enslavements. Ron Paul will destroy/obliterate/demolish the Entire NWO financial base and most of their agendas. So, as the powers that be know under no circumstances can they allow RP president 08. The powers that be control the vote and certainly can not allow the basic financial structure of their power to be taken away and them accountable. The vote will be fixed against RP. The only other reasonable alternative from insuring a 100% constitutional vote, is to believe you can take the fixed vote, or there is absolutely no need to run if you plan to run to win (now, I'm certainly open to any other possibly viable venues on a Win Scenerio/but even a loss leaves NWO intact in the States).

Yes, it is a REVOLution alright, but not the one we think - it's a NWO REVILution. A sect rebellion power play of the 'powers that be' crew of religious fanatics that are the US power base of the NWO/Bilderbergers/CFR/etc. Is RP fanaticism more powerful than Bush fanaticism? The sect must think so, or why try and overtake what all know is a vote controlled by the NWO fanatics.

Look at your nations power structures - almost all based on religion - almost all the leaders connect and follow out their religion's God's Will (Muslim, Jew, Christian, Catholic, Protestant, Budha, with some claiming direct connection to their religious God. These NWO religious fanatics were and still are reponsible for crusades, inquisitions, wars, genocides, torture and enslavements.)

So, I repeat I am and recommend voting for RP as significantly lesser of the two evils. It is a known evil that is greatly more beneficial than the current NWO branch rule of War, genocide, and generalized oppresion (last I checked enslavement of the mind and body is better than being dead for the moment and one can always change their mind - dead makes it considerably harder to change things).

The above is only my investigative opinion based on referenced facts approached with deductive reasoning.

Report Reveals Vietnam
War Hoaxes

WASHINGTON (AFP) -- North Vietnamese made hoax calls to get the US military to bomb its own units during the Vietnam War, according to declassified information that also confirmed US officials faked an incident to escalate the war.

The report was released by the National Security Agency, responsible for much of the United States' codebreaking and eavesdropping work, in response to a "mandatory declassification" request, the Federation of American Scientists (FAS) said Monday.

From the first intercepted cable -- a 1945 message from Vietnamese leader Ho Chi Minh to his Russian counterpart Joseph Stalin -- to the final evacuation of US spies from Saigon, the 500-page report retold Vietnam War history from the perspective of "signals intelligence," the group said in a statement.

During the war, North Vietnamese intelligence units sometimes succeeded in penetrating US communications systems, and they could monitor American message traffic from within, according to the report "Spartans in Darkness."

On several occasions "the communists were able, by communicating on Allied radio nets, to call in Allied artillery or air strikes on American units," it said.

"That's something I have never heard before," Steven Aftergood, director of the FAS project on government secrecy, told AFP.

But he said that probably the "most historically significant feature" of the declassified report was the retelling of the 1964 Gulf of Tonkin incident.

That was a reported North Vietnamese attack on American destroyers that helped lead to president Lyndon Johnson's sharp escalation of American forces in Vietnam.

The author of the report "demonstrates that not only is it not true, as (then US) secretary of defense Robert McNamara told Congress, that the evidence of an attack was 'unimpeachable,' but that to the contrary, a review of the classified signals intelligence proves that 'no attack happened that night,'" FAS said in a statement.

"What this study demonstrated is that the available intelligence shows that there was no attack. It's a dramatic reversal of the historical record," Aftergood said.

"There were previous indications of this but this is the first time we have seen the complete study," he said.

The United States has become a nation enslaved by lies. The fundamental deception of our time is clearly the pack of lies about what happened on 9-11. The so-called "War on Terror," the USA PATRIOT ACT, and the subsequent illegal invasions and occupations of Afghanistan and Iraq all ride on the back of this immense lie.

The lie that has enslaved the nation was pushed on the people by the unelected regime of tyrants and the Zionist-controlled media. The highest-level people who planned and protected the 9-11 lie, like the Israeli-American Asst. Attorney General Michael Chertoff, are also the chief architects of the reign of terror that has followed. Chertoff, for example, is the primary author of the USA PATRIOT ACT and the head of the Dept. of Homeland Security.

What is most disturbing about the tyranny of lies in America is the appalling lack of protest from the so-called "free press," academia, and the churches in the face of such blatant and dangerous deception. If not the truth, what do these institutions really stand for?

Why have so many physics professors and structural engineers gone along with such outrageous lies about the collapse of the three World Trade Towers that collapsed on 9-11? Why has the scientific community rolled over and accepted the falsehoods that were presented as science in the aftermath of 9-11?

Instead of challenging the nonsense about the collapses that was presented to the public by a bunch of lousy immigrant "scientists" who could barely speak English, the native American scientists who really should know about steel-framed skyscrapers just rolled over.

Much of the worst science came from engineers who live and work near my home in Chicago. W. Gene Corley and Zdenek P. Bazant will certainly go down in the history of science as two of the most servile and corrupt engineers in U.S. history. Corley headed the government's 9-11 (FEMA & ASCE) engineering study, as he did for the mass murder at Waco and the Oklahoma City bombing. Professor Bazant authored a paper on what caused the collapse of the twin tower that was published two days after 9-11. I wonder when he started writing.

Bazant's purpose was not to bring attention to himself. Bazant's purpose was to present a plausible explanation for the government and media in order to prevent the public and independent scientists from asking the obvious questions and doing their own investigation and analysis.

The last thing the architects of the false flag terror wanted was for people like Van Romero of New Mexico Tech to start talking to the media about the evidence of explosives in the towers, which he did on 9-11.

The silence of the larger engineering and scientific community indicates that these experts and engineers are either unable to understand what happened on 9-11 or that they are controlled by forces that prevent them from speaking out.

In either case, it is quite clear that most members of the scientific community in the United States are simply afraid to challenge the lies of the government and media.

When Steven E. Jones, a professor at Brigham Young University, was attacked for his research and article on the collapses of the World Trade Center there were very few members of the academic community who came to his defense.

The public had been waiting for years for someone in the scientific community with Jones' credentials and expertise to come forward and challenge the lies about 9-11. When he did, he was knocked down – most unfairly.

As I said, there must be other forces, political forces, acting on this community. When things get really serious they certainly do not stand up for the truth – or good science. Very few scientists have joined with Dr. Jones or the 9-11 truth movement in spite of the blatant lies that must really bother those scientists who can see through them.

Recently, Anders Björkman, an independent structural engineer from Europe, has written a response to the conclusions of Zdenek Bazant of Northwestern University about what caused the collapses of the World Trade Center.

Björkman, a Swedish naval architect and engineer, has exposed the biggest fraud in maritime history behind the 1994 sinking of the Baltic ferry Estonia. Now he has joined the discussion about the demolition of the World Trade Center with an article in which he does a good job of disproving Bazant's "false theory" that burning jet fuel brought down the twin towers.



It makes no sense that a small fire destroyed this well-built tower in minutes...

while this tower in Madrid burned for a whole day...


and remained standing.


Björkman's article was written for "children and amateurs of skyscraper design who want to get a better understanding of the world around us."

He "describes the structure of the World Trade Center Twin Towers and what happens when the release of potential energy, due to downward movement of the mass above one of its supporting columns when buckling, exceeds the strain energy that can be absorbed by the same column below."

He concludes that "no global collapse of the Towers can ensue under the given circumstances." He even describes a simple test that can be done to see how the steel in the towers would have responded to the 500 degree C. heat it was exposed to.



All videos of the collapse however show that the upper part above the initiation zone actually disintegrates within 3,5 seconds after the roof starts to fall, so there is no rigid mass above to act on the structure below after that. The debris of the upper part is actually thrown outwards between intact wall columns and produces a smoke and dust screen that hides the destruction of the lower part that starts after 5 or 6 seconds. The suggestion that the Tower cages collapsed due to release of potential energy at the top exceeding the strain energy of the cage structure in the initiation zone and later below is not demonstrated by NIST and Z P Bazant and not supported by any evidence what so ever or any serious structural analysis. The picture above does not show a global collapse due to floors falling down or a hammer hitting a nail ... or a child jumping in a bed!

A Surge Of More Lies

A new troubling myth has taken hold in Washington and it is critical that the record is set straight. According to the mainstream media, Republicans, and unfortunately even some Democrats, the President's surge in Iraq has been a resounding success. In fact, nothing could be further from the truth.

This assertion is disingenuous, factually incorrect, and negatively impacts America's national security. The Surge had a clear and defined objective - to create stability and security - enabling the Iraqi government to enact lasting political solutions and foster genuine reconciliation and cooperation between Sunnis, Shias, and Kurds.

This has not happened.

There has been negligible political progress in Iraq, and we are no closer to solving the complex problems - including a power sharing government, oil revenue agreement and new constitution - than we were before the Administration upped the ante and sent 30,000 more troops to Iraq.

Too many Democrats in Congress are again surrendering to General Petraeus and have failed to challenge the Bush Administration's claims that the surge has been successful. In fact -- it is just the opposite.

The reduction in violence in Iraq has exposed the continuing failure of Iraqi officials to solve their substantial political rifts. By President Bush's own stated goal of political progress, the Surge has failed.

Of course raising troop levels has increased security - a strategy the Bush administration ignored when presented by General Shinseki before the war in Iraq began - but the fundamental internal Iraqi problems remain and the factors that were accelerating the civil war in 2007 have simply been put on hold.

The military progress is a testament to the patience and dedication of our brave troops - even in the face of 15 month-long deployments followed by insufficient Veteran's health services when they return home. They have performed brilliantly - despite the insult of having President Bush recently veto a military spending bill that enhanced funding and benefits, and increased care.

Despite the efforts of American soldiers, the surge alone cannot bring about the political solutions needed to end centuries of sectarian divide.

As it stands, little on the ground supports the assertion that Iraqis are ready to stand up and govern themselves. Too few Iraqi troops are trained, equipped and combat ready, and they cannot yet provide adequate security. Loyalty is also an issue in the Iraqi army as Al Queda and Sunni insurgents infliltrate their defense forces. The consequences turned deadly just recently when an Iraqi soldier purposely killed two U.S. troops.

On the streets of Baghdad and Mosul, the Sunni and Shia factions have paused their fighting, awaiting guarantees and protections that have not yet been delivered. As Iraqi refugees return, there is no mechanism to help them rebuild their lives, nor recover their now-occupied homes. Neighborhoods once mixed are now segregated.

In Northern Iraq, Kurdish terrorists conducting nefarious operations across the border into Turkey have compelled our NATO ally to strike at bases, inflaming tensions between Baghdad and Ankara.

The surge is working? We suffered more U.S. casualties in 2007 than in any other year of the war. We can't afford any more of this type of success.

How can we create the situation that is most likely to deliver political progress in Iraq? Not by continuing the surge and occupation. Our best chance (there is no guarantee) is by putting real pressure on the Iraqi government to force action. Telling the national and local Iraqi leaders that we are withdrawing our troops can help accomplish this goal. Today, the majority Iraqi Shia government led by Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki has little incentive to act when American troops remain in the country to provide security and stability.

Based on the Administration's plan, John McCain's proposal of a 100-year US occupation could be a reality!

The Democratic Congress must act aggressively to first cut off funding for the surge and then the entire war. Many of my colleagues avoided a showdown with the administration because they mistakenly believed such a fight would endanger the safety of the troops.

In fact, we must accept that every soldier killed or injured in the coming months should have already been home. Every billion dollars of war-appropriations we spend from here on should have been spent on genuine priorities here at home such as children's heath care.

Enough is enough: While the Administration over-commits American forces in Iraq, we see Al Qaeda-regrouping and Osama Bin Laden still at large. We remain seriously bogged down in Afghanistan, and are witnessing a crisis in Pakistan that has left a nuclear country on the brink of a meltdown. America's resources and attention are desperately needed elsewhere and our soldiers must no longer be needlessly sacrificed as we wait for Iraqis to stand up.

The Surge has failed. If my colleagues gullibly accept the moving rationale for the Surge, just as so many have for the war itself, we will have failed as well.

The Pride & Purpose
Of Continual Protest

What is the purpose of protest, especially far from the seat of any real power? Does protest then become an empty sort of symbolism? An infantile act of egotism? Or a reminder, a testimony to resilience and truth?

On Kodiak Island, Alaska, about as far from Washington DC as you can get, a handful of protesters conduct a weekly vigil against the war in the Middle East . Come rain or shine or blowing snow, they stand in front of the main post office every Friday afternoon--and have for more than four years now.

"To remind complacent Americans that an unjust war is going on," said local DJ Jim "Cowboy" Cobis. A Vietnam vet, Cobis hosts a radio show called Peace Train. "I close the show with that song," said Cobis with a twinkle. Older Americans may recall the singer of the song as Cat Stevens, now disdained as an Islamo-fascist by the people in power in DC.

Part of a group called Women In Black, the Kodiak protesters opposed the war since the very beginning.
"The same six," said Dick Ross, unfurling a colorful peace sign, "But sometimes as many as a dozen." His pup, Smarty, joined us and swelled the group to seven. "Fewer people give us the finger now," said Ross. "Used to be about half. Some would come up and argue the case for the war. Not many do that now."


A genial bear of a man, Ross was a twenty year veteran of the Navy and Coast Guard, here on an island with a strong Coast Guard presence. Ross refused to believe America was a dying republic, but a vibrant democracy, alive and still kicking. " I prefer to see the glass as half full," said Ross. And maybe Ross is right. When MSNBC asked recently whether President Bush should be impeached, 89% of the half million respondents said yes.


Still, as I stood there, with the cold wind blowing off the ocean, I wondered what difference did this protest make? Had anything changed? Would anything change? What-the-hell good did holding an anti-war sign do, when many fat and distracted Americans were far removed from any sacrifice? Imagine Jesus standing in front of the Jewish temple, holding a sign: "Stop The Moneychangers." Now contrast that with Jesus' memorable moment of activism, overturning tables, whipping the moneychangers, yelling at the top of his lungs.


Peculiar how pacified we so-called activists have become. Unless, of course, we can, each of us, look inside ourselves and remark: MY activism is very personal and very purposeful. There are a thousand different and effective ways of protesting an imperial state, many of them too minute to be discerned. But collectively these methods have impact, like termites weakening and then collapsing a structure.


Many of us, millions nationwide, are already engaged in the pursuit of toppling the rotten structure or rebuilding the old one.


"I hope this makes a tiny bit of difference," said Arlene, as cars rolled past, many filled with young people. Local school kids trudged to the nearby library and recreation center. Two Turkish workers, employed by the cannery, stopped and joined our group, but none of the local Kodiak youngsters did. Would younger people (or their parents) become more outspoken, I wondered, once the bills for the war became due?


With the tab now estimated at more than a trillion dollars (and counting) the hangover would be hard to ignore. Did anyone see the similarity between Iraq and Vietnam ?


"Sure," said Cobis; "The same government lying through its teeth in both operations."


Kodiak is a prosperous town, among the top US commercial fishing ports every year. A melting pot of Aleuts and Norwegians, Texans and Filipinos, Russians and Salvadorans, a vibrant community mostly focused on fishing. A hardworking community and, from the stares, not quite used to the diverse group of men and women practicing non-violent civil disobediance, even after four years.


Despite the quizzical looks from the kids, who will have to pay for this war, their parents practice that peculiar activism, NIMBYism, familiar to all. A recent local protest against the relocation of a proposed, new police station, drew hundreds of Kodiak marchers. "They were lined up all along the street," said Arlene; "upset at the city council and mayor who voted against their wishes."


Sadly but not surprisingly, elected leaders, whether in Washington or Kodiak, ignore the wishes of the people to further their narrow agenda or ideology. Regarding the proposed new police station here in Kodiak, the locals then put a successful referendum on the ballot before the recent election. Why the same couldn't be done for an unpopular war is anyone's guess.


Power, by the people, and for the people. So recommended a few fellows named Washington, Jefferson, Adams, Madison, Franklin and Paine. Those guys knew a thing or two about hardships. Some had spent a winter or two camped in snow at places called Valley Forge and Trenton, New Jersey. By the way, Friday's weather forecast for Kodiak called for 17 degrees, with some snow flurries, and a windchill of 8 degrees.

Treason & The Bomb

If a new article just published Saturday in the Times of London based upon information provided by US government whistleblower Sibel Edmonds, a 37-year-old former Turkish language translator for the FBI, is correct, we have not only solid evidence of prior knowledge of 9-11 by high up US government officials, but evidence of treasonous activity by many of those same officials involving efforts to provide US nuclear secrets to America's enemies, even including Al Qaeda.

The story also casts a chilling light on the so-called "accidental" flight of six nuclear-armed cruise missiles aboard an errant B-52 that flew last Aug. 30 from Minot AFB in North Dakota to Barksdale AFB in Shreveport, Louisiana.

The Sunday Times reports that Edmonds, whose whistleblowing efforts have been studiously ignored by what passes for the news media in American news media, approached the Rupert Murdoch-owned British paper a month ago after reading a report there that an Al-Qaeda leader had been training some of the 9-11 hijackers at a base in Turkey, a US NATO alley, under the noses of the Turkish military.

Edmonds, who was recruited by the FBI after 9-11 because of her Turkish and Farsi language skills, has long been claiming that in her FBI job of covertly monitoring conversations between Turkish, Israeli, Persian and other foreign agents and US contacts, including a backlog of untranslated tapes dating back to 1997, she had heard evidence of "money laundering, drug imports and attempts to acquire nuclear and conventional weapons technology." But the Turkish training for 9-11 rang more alarm bells and made her decide that talking behind closed doors to Congress or the FBI was not enough. She had to go public.

Edmonds claims in the Times that even as she was providing evidence of moles within the US State Department, the Pentagon, and the nuclear weapons establishment, who were providing nuclear secrets for cash, through Turkey, to Pakistan's intelligence agency, the Inter-Services Intelligence, or ISI, agencies within the Bush administration were actively working to block investigation and to shield those who were committing the acts of treason.

Pakistan's ISI is known to have had, and to still maintain close contacts with Al-Qaeda. Indeed, the Times notes that Pakistan's nuclear god-father, General Mahmoud Ahmad, was accused of sanctioning a $100,000 wire payment to Mohammed Atta, one of the 9/11 hijackers, immediately before the attacks.

Edmonds claims, in the Times article, that following the 9-11 attacks, FBI investigators took a number of Turkish and Pakistani operatives into custody for questioning about foreknowledge of the attacks, but that a high-ranking US State Department official repeatedly acted to spirit them out of the country.

Edmonds was fired from her FBI translating job in 2002 after she accused a colleague of having illicit contact with Turkish officials. She has claimed that she was fired for being outspoken, and in 2005 her position was reportedly vindicated by the Office of Inspector General of the FBI, which concluded that she had been sacked for making valid complaints.

One of those whom Edmonds claims in the Times report was being investigated in connection with the nuclear information transfers was Pentagon analyst Lawrence Franklin. Franklin was convicted and jailed in 2006 for passing US defense information to American Israel Public Affairs Committee lobbyists and sharing classified information with an Israeli diplomat. Franklin, in 2001, was part of the Pentagon Office of Special Plans, a kind of shadow intelligence unit set up by the Bush administration inside the Pentagon whose job it was to gin up "evidence" to justify a war against Iraq. In that capacity, he (along with several other OSP members and arch neocon schemer Michael Ledeen) was also identified by Italian investigative journalists working for the newspaper La Republican, as having been at a crucial meeting in December 2001 in Rome with the Italian defense and intelligence service ministers. La Republicca reports that at that meeting a plan was hatched to fob off forged Niger embassy documents as evidence that Iraqi strongman Saddam Hussein was trying to buy uranium ore from Niger.

If Edmonds' story is correct, and Al-Qaeda, with the aid of Turkish government agents and Pakistani intelligence, and with the help of US government officials, has been attempting to obtain nuclear materials and nuclear information from the U.S., it casts an even darker shadow over the mysterious and still unexplained incident last August 30, when a B-52 Stratofortress, based at the Minot strategic air base in Minot, ND, against all rules and regulations of 40 years' standing, loaded and flew off with six unrecorded and unaccounted for nuclear-tipped cruise missiles.

That incident only came to public attention because three as yet unidentified Air Force whistleblowers contacted a reporter at the Military Times newspaper, which ran a series of stories about it, some of which were picked up by other US news organizations.

An Air Force investigation into that incident, ordered by Defense Secretary Robert Gates, claimed improbably that the whole thing had been an "accident," but many veterans of the US Air Force and Navy with experience in handling nuclear weapons say that such an explanation is impossible, and argue that there had to have been a chain or orders from above the level of the base commander for such a flight to have occurred.

Incredibly, almost five months after that bizarre incident (which included several as yet unexplained deaths of B-52 pilots and base personnel occurring in the weeks shortly before and after the flight), in which six 150-kiloton warheads went missing for 36 hours, there has been no Congressional investigation and no FBI investigation into what happened.

Yet in view of Edmonds' story to the London Times, alleging that there has been an ongoing, active effort for some years by both Al Qaeda and by agents of two US allies, Turkey and Pakistan, to get US nuclear weapons secrets and even weapons, and that there are treasonous moles at work within the American government and nuclear bureaucracy aiding and abetting those efforts, surely at a minimum, a major public inquiry is called for.

Meanwhile, there is enough in just this one London Times story to keep an army of investigative reporters busy for years. So why, one has to ask, is this story appearing in a highly respected British newspaper, but not anywhere in the corporate US media?

First the videos with bin Laden ones Exhibit A. He always seems to pop up strategically at well-timed moments, almost like we planned it that way. Evidence points that way.

Consider the one on Friday (September 7) before the sixth 9/11 anniversary in 2007. Digital image forensics expert, Neal Krawetz of Hactor Factor, said it was full of low quality visual and audio splices, a likely fake. Striking also was bin Laden's beard that was gray in recent images. In this video, it's black. In addition, the footage has him dressed in a white hat and shirt and yellow sweater, precisely his same attire on an October 29, 2004 video. In addition, the background, lighting, desk and camera angle are the same.

Krawetz noted that "if you overlay the 2007 and 2004 videos, bin Laden's face is the same (unaged). Only his beard is darker, and the picture contrast was adjusted. Most important are the edits showing obvious splices, at least six video ones in all. Even more audio ones were used that appear to be words and phrases spliced together making Krawetz suspect a vocal imitator was used.

Now the latest "incident" and video making headlines. They involve a supposed Persian Gulf confrontation between Iranian and US vessels in open waters. A subsequent Pentagon video shows small Iranian boats v. US warships in the Strait of Hormuz earlier this week. The Pentagon and major media reported a fleet of high-speed small craft charged at and threatened to blow up a three-ship convoy of US warships. George Bush called it a "dangerous" provocation and warned of "serious consequences" if there are further incidents.

Iran's response came swiftly and called the Pentagon video and audio "fabricated." The incident was routine and something "normal that takes place every now and then for each party" to identify the other....Iran Navy units always put questions to passing vessels and warships at the Strait of Hormuz and they need to identify themselves. This is in accordance with the normal procedures." The Tehran spokesman said its Navy units "asked (the US ships) to identify themselves. They responded accordingly and continued on their (non-agressive) path."

On January 9 (according to Agence France-Presse - AFP), Iran's Revolutionary Guards (IRGC) accused Washington of fabricating footage of the incident it described as routine and non-confrontational. The country's state-run Al-Alam Arabic language international channel and English language Press-TV both quoted an IRGC spokesman with similar comments. This hardly needs elaborating. It's unimaginable that lightly armed small craft would challenge heavily armed warships from any nation, let alone likely nuclear-armed ones flying US flags. The very notion borders on the absurd. Imagining where this may lead, however, recall the August, 1964 Gulf of Tonkin incident. No further comment needed.

Now the January, 2008 election: dateline New Hampshire. Zogby International has a well-deserved reputation for accuracy. It's January 5 - 7 pre-election poll numbers showed Obama at 42% v. Clinton's 29% - an impossible gap to close in a few days or even weeks. Yet magically it happened. Clinton miraculously snatched victory from certain defeat with 39% of the vote to Obama's 36% with the loser saying no more than "I am still fired up and ready to go." Where to he should ask after this type reversal with obvious grim signs for his hopes.

Consider final New Hampshire vote tallies for all candidates compared to Zogby's January 5 - 7 pre-election poll numbers. For Republican and Democrat candidates alike, they were dead-on right with one glaring exception. Something to ponder and question.

On the Republican side, something fishy happened as well to its one outlier - Ron Paul. The candidate's "war room" hand count showed he got 15% of the vote, but official counting gave him 8% and 9% in total when electronically tabulated votes were included. His web site said he scored 10% or better in every township and listed percentages for them all. They ranged from 34% to 10.25%. If these numbers are accurate, Paul got a minimum of 10% of New Hampshire's vote for a third place finish.

Another disturbing report also emerged. The town of Sutton admitted it voided all Paul votes. He got 31, but none made the official tally. It was blamed on "human error" that might account for a slight variance but highly unlikely to erase his entire total. Yet it did and raises strong suspicions of fraud. Once this information got out, other districts where Paul scored zero changed their final count adding votes for him never counted. Something clearly is rotten in New Hampshire. It doesn't say much for the process ahead, or past ones either for that matter.

Renegade CIA agent Agee dies

Philip Agee, a former CIA agent who became a bitter critic of Washington's Cuba policy, has died aged 72, Cuban state media reported today.
Agee quit the CIA in 1969 after 12 years in which he mainly worked in Latin America. He was later denounced as a traitor by George Bush Sr and was threatened with death by his former colleagues.

His famous 1975 book, Inside the Company: CIA Diary, cited alleged CIA misdeeds against leftwingers in the region and included a 22-page list of people he claimed were agency operatives.

Granma, Cuba's communist party newspaper, said Agee died on Monday night and described him as "a loyal friend of Cuba and fervent defender of the peoples' fight for a better world".
Bernie Dwyer, a journalist with state-run Radio Havana, said Agee had been in hospital since last month, where he died following several operations for perforated ulcers. Dwyer said friends planned a remembrance ceremony for him on Sunday at his Havana apartment.

In comments published last year, Agee defended his decision to expose the CIA: "It was a time in the 70s when the worst imaginable horrors were going on in Latin America.

"Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Uruguay, Paraguay, Guatemala, El Salvador - they were military dictatorships with death squads, all with the backing of the CIA and the US government. That was what motivated me to name all the names and work with journalists who were interested in knowing just who the CIA were in their countries."

His intent to destabilise the organisation by revealing the identities of CIA agents infuriated his former employers. In Britain, he worked with journalists to list the names of the agents, leading to many of them being sent back to Washington with their cover blown.

Agee wanted to settle in Cambridge with his partner, Angela, a leftwing Brazilian who had been jailed and tortured in her own country, and his two young sons by his estranged wife.

He planned to continue exposing the CIA but his plans were ruined when he was deported in 1978 as a threat to the security of the state.

He believes the US secretary of state, Henry Kissinger, urged the prime minister, Jim Callaghan, to act because of a belief that Agee had disrupted the Jamaican elections in favour of leftwinger Michael Manley by exposing CIA activities there.

He settled in Germany with his new lover, a ballet dancer called Giselle Roberge, and later split his time between Hamburg and Havana. In 1979, his US passport was finally revoked and was never returned.

However, Agee had no regrets about his decision to blow the whistle on the CIA. He said: "There was a price to pay. It disrupted the education of my children [Phil and Chris, then teenagers] and I don't think it was a happy period for them. It also cost me all my money. Everything I made from the book, I had to spend.

"But it made me a stronger person in many ways and it ensured I would never lose interest or go back in the other direction politically. The more they did these dirty things, the more they made me realise what I was doing was important."

Under the US Freedom of Information Act, Agee was able to discover the CIA had accumulated 18,000 pages of information on him.

Agee was repeatedly blamed for the death of Richard Welch, the CIA station chief in Athens who was assassinated in 1975.

"George Bush's father [George Bush Sr] came in as CIA director in the month after the assassination and he intensified the campaign, spreading the lie that I was the cause of the assassination. His wife, Barbara, published her memoirs and she repeated the same lie, and this time I sued and won, in the sense that she was required to send me a letter in which she apologised and recognised what she wrote about me was false.

"They've tried to make this story stick for years. I never know what government hand or neocon hand is behind the allegations, and I don't pay too much attention, but I know I haven't been forgotten."

Agee was a great supporter of what he regarded as Cuba's progressive policies providing universal healthcare and education, and he regarded the current US president as the "antithesis" of those achievements.

Writing in the Guardian last year, he said: "All Cuba's achievements have been in defiance of US efforts to isolate Cuba. Every dirty method has been used, including infiltration, sabotage, terrorism, assassination, economic and biological warfare and incessant lies in the media of many countries."

Agee denied claims from a former Cuban intelligence officer he had received $1m from Cuban intelligence.

Despite the long-running bitterness between him and the US authorities, Agee was allowed to return to the US many times without being arrested and was allowed back into Britain under John Major's government.

In the 1990s, he set up a company to bring visitors to Cuba. Many travellers came from the US, even though Americans are forbidden by law from visiting the country and can be fined heavily if caught.

Until his death, Agee remained committed to exposing the CIA. Last year, he was working on a book about the CIA's activities in Venezuela.

The Great American Electric Scandal

Thomas A. Edison, a mostly self-educated wizard, ended up with a lot of things named after him. One of those is the Chicago-based COMMONWEALTH EDISON CO., supplying power for a large part of Illinois.

Although some may praise Edison, the inventor, lately they curse his namesake, Edison, the electric utility. Why? Frequent black-outs and high rates are too easy of an answer.

Edison is the largest nuclear electric firm in the U.S. Because of its nuke plants being old or just plain trouble, the firm still uses plenty of fossil fuel generators. And some of those are old enough to apply for a Social Security pension. Some claim some of Edison's facilities are almost 90 years old. For years, Edison paid a dependable dividend to stockholders who are not inclined to have the latest, most modern equipment at the expense of a reduced dividend. And Edison is loaded with a mountain of debt owed to banks owned by America's banker-judges.


One of the largest owners of Edison is a foreign, absentee owner, the VATICAN, through a Netherlands front, ROBECO. This is quite natural, since Chicago is the largest Catholic Archdiocese in the U.S. And the Pope also owns several other sizeable enterprises in Chicago. And like any faraway owner, they are principally interested in the bottom-line take-home profit of their property, rather than the comfort of local utility rate-payers or customers. Also, the Vatican owns the water works in Rome, and many there similarly claim lack of good service.


When Edison applied for yet another nuclear facility license in the 1970s, a Chicago political activist, Harriet Sherman [a member of our court reform group], fought them. The basis of her objection: that the U.S. Atomic Energy Act prohibits foreign ownership of nuclear facilities in the U.S. Ignoring the Vatican ownership question, the Nuclear Regulatory Commission rejected her petition. Edison used their muscle to inflict reprisals. Without a proper basis, Edison arbitrarily cut off her residential electric service. No one in authority seemed to care or offer a remedy. The Vatican is not only a foreign separate sovereignty, as law books refer to it, but, moreover, is a religious government, a theocracy. By the way, the Vatican also has owned the other major nuclear electric plants in the U.S., in Virginia and in Florida.

The false cut-off of the loudmouth's electric service ended up as an unpublicized damage suit in Chicago's courts. As plaintiff, she forced 16 local judges, some not even Catholics, but beholden to Edison and the Vatican, to one by one disqualify themselves. Some judges gave hour-long court speeches, in response to her demand that they divulge whether they are so beholden, to explain away why as NON-CATHOLICS, they as judges were still somehow obligated to the Vatican. One Judge told her in Court, in my presence, "You forgot to ask me whether the Archdiocese and the Vatican are the ones necessary to get me on the election ballot in this County." So she asked and he said "You do not get on the ballot at all, Catholic or not, without their blessings." He removed himself.


Tired of her targetting so many judges, one by one, and to avoid a messy trial, the Vatican-owned Commonwealth Edison Company quietly settled. The activist was happy ending up with a long-needed new roof for her residence.


One of the great secrets of Chicago, if not the nation, is that 8 downtown buildings do not need Edison. In their sub-basement, carefully hidden by secret entrances from office workers, are atomic "pigs".Called that because the compact mechanisms seem to stand on feet like such an animal and operate much like in a nuclear-powered submarine. Using such cheap, efficient power, such buildings leave their lights on all night. Why? Turning the fluorescent bulbs and electronic devices on and off too much make them "pop".

In April,1992, was a strange flood downtown Chicago, caused by a forgotten, no longer used tunnel crossing under the nearby river, somehow caving in. [Some claimed sabotage.] The tunnel was once used for narrow-track railroad cars running in tunnels under the downtown, to deliver coal and other items.

As the river flooded the downtown building basements, there was a growing danger it would inundate the sub-basements of the buildings with the secret atomic electricity. Only a handful of elite electrical engineers, pledged to national security and secrecy, ever knew about all this. If some kind of disaster almost happened, Chicagoans were never informed of the near-miss by the pressfakers.

Superstitious sorts worry about Friday the 13th. A day ahead of August 13, 1999, a Friday, a series of events seemed to spotlight Edison's foreign owners "milking" their worn out property. The result: businesses just west of downtown had their juice cut off. To avoid burning out other equipment, in a spreading problem, Edison gave only ten minutes warning notice it was going to shut off the power to part of downtown, called "The Loop" by locals. The first story claimed it all started when an Edison crew reportedly damaged a main cable.


Mayor Richard M. Daley, a devout Catholic, held a press conference and rightfully railed against Edison's bungling. Referring to the city's franchise agreement with Edison, he demanded they fire most of their engineers and get an outside engineering firm to rectify the endless black-out problems.

Cynics claim the whole mess is simply that the Pope wants to be rid of a growing hole in his pocket called Commonwealth Edison. Maybe the city will buy out Edison's old machinery for municipal electricity. [Years ago, it did not work in Cleveland because of massive media bombardment.] Wags contend its a scheme by the petroleum cartel to sell more candles.

A Recount Of NH Primary?

While the political pundits chatter on about the shocking "upset" in the New Hampshire primary between Marxist Hillary Clinton and 'No Change' Barack Obama, there is a storm brewing regarding the vote count for Congressman Ron Paul.

Regular readers of my column know I have been on the vote fraud issue since 1993. It is real and has dominated our elections since the late '60s. While the corporate media flunkies have been diligent in their efforts to marginalize and crush Dr. Paul's run for the White House the past several months, his support has swelled and along with it, the necessary cash to run a viable campaign. [See this excellent DVD on vote fraud "Hacking Democracy"]

Those of us who have followed the events taking place in this country the past couple of decades are fully cognizant of how the shadow government operates behind the curtain and feeds the peasants (you and me) what they want the people to know and make sure via technology, that enough of their kind are "elected" to higher offices and stay in office. Over the past eight years, I have watched the anger and activism over vote fraud continue to grow as more and more Americans have finally come to the realization that the ballot box no longer belongs to we the people.

This presidential election, and I say this after being in the trenches full time for 18 long years, this is our last hope of putting a true man of the U.S. Constitution and freedom in the White House. These primaries are critical because the delegates to the Republican National Convention this summer which will pick the GOP candidate are being pledged during this process. That's why every single vote counts and it's our right to have every vote counted.

Iowa was a dismal affair with Dr. Paul allegedly coming in fifth place with 10%. As I wrote in my last column, in several counties in Iowa, Dr. Paul pulled in 35%, 14%, 15%, 21% and several with 12% of the vote. Of course, that didn't make the "news" on any cable or "mainstream" network. I didn't believe the final count because I know better. The machines are in control and the powerful elites who rule our lives intend to install their new puppet in the White House regardless of what we the people want.

While I don't follow vote fraud activist, Jim Condit, a friend sent me a link to a piece written by Condit regarding the efforts in Iowa to get an open vote, how they were kicked in the teeth by the GOP heavies and the problems they encountered. What he describes is what I encountered in 1996 when I ran (GOP) for Congress: the local and state machine cared nothing for the truth, only how many backsides they could kiss in their quest to climb the political ladder to power. Believe me, I experienced and watched it first hand. After that primary I walked from the GOP because I could no longer support a party that cared nothing for this country or the truth, only whose boots they could spit and shine making them feel important in their magniloquent little worlds.

I found these comments particularly disturbing in Condit's recounting of events: "3. Right after the hour radio show, -- so many irate Iowans called the Iowa GOP headquarters demanding to know why they were using the discredited Diebold machines, that the Iowa GOP made an appeal to the Ron Paul paid staff in Iowa to send out an email asking Ron Paul supporters to quit calling GOP headquarters! The email, sent out by RP paid staff member, Jeff Frazee, to Ron Paul supporters was nasty; it told them to "Stop it", regarding any more calls to the political thugs at Iowa GOP Headquarters. He also said that the RP paid staff was doing everything they could to insure a fair count, which was a blatant falsehood, as they did nothing but support the Iowa GOP in their unconscionable, secret count of the votes (behind police guard)." (Regarding the Diebold Machines, please see my last column because it contains links to many items on the corrupt Diebold machines.)

Next we have the fiasco two days ago in New Hampshire. The first incident was a report that two family members had voted in Sutton, New Hampshire, but the returns showed 0 votes cast for Dr. Paul. This 0 vote count was displayed on prominent sites like politico.com. On January 9, 2008, the day following the farce out in New Hampshire, Bev Harris, of BlackBoxVoting.org, called the county clerk's office in Sutton and, oops, the vote count for Ron Paul was 31:

Update January 9 am PST: Town of Sutton Confirms Ron Paul Totals were 31, not zero. "I just got off the phone with Jennifer Call, Town Clerk for Sutton. She confirmed that the Ron Paul totals in Sutton were actually 31, and said that they were "left off the tally sheet" and it was human error. This is not an acceptable answer, especially because one of the most common forms of fraud in a hand count system is to alter or omit results on the reporting sheet. Hand count is lovely, transparent. They then fill out another reconciliation sheet, often in front of witnesses, and it looks fine. Then they provide a summary or media sheet with the incorrect results."

Bev Harris is amazing and the input below from her is just the beginning of unraveling the fraud in New Hampshire: "One noticeable thing on the 59 screen shots I grabbed between 10:45 pm NH time and midnight NH time, is that the ones that had late results (not submitted as of 4 hours after poll closing) -- well, you'd expect them to be hand count locations, right? Nope. Mostly Diebold locations. That's a major red flag to me. How the heck can you not push "print" for four hours??? It normally takes only 30 minutes to wrap things up and print the poll tape when the polls close.

"My method was grabbing the municipalities left to right, right to left, starting at the south end of the state and working up. I only got about three rows up. Anyone who has additional time slice information documenting late reporters I'd like to see it. Late reporters from the first 59 locations I grabbed":

Brentwood - Diebold location - had the Dem results, but no Republican results as of 11:53 pm (polls closed at 7)
Chesterfield - Hand count location - no results as of 11:00 pm
Derry - Diebold location - no results in as of 11:42 pm
Fremont - Diebold location - no results in as of 11:48 pm
Greenfield - Hand count location - no results in as of 11:52 pm
Hampton - Diebold location - results in on time, but I flagged this because every Dem candidate had a result divisible by 5 and for Republicans, Huckabee 217, McCain 1217, Romney 1217, it just looked weird. So much for my statistical capabilities.

New Ipswich - Diebold location - results not in as of 10:52 pm
Newton - Diebold location - results not in as of 10:58 pm
Pelham - Diebold location - results not in as of 10:56 pm

McCain was declared the winner by several networks 17 MINUTES after the polls closed. Same thing I wrote about in my last column. With a few precincts "reporting" or "projected," it's all over - even before the bulk of ballots are "counted" by the machines. What a farce.

If you will go to this link on BlackBoxVoting.org and scroll down a ways, you'll see a chart comparing Towns with Paper Ballots and Towns with Diebold Machines. The results are stunning for the Clinton/Obama race. I also recommend you book mark and read over the weekend: '99 Ways to Steal Elections: The Story of John Fund and Ron Paul' by Melinda Pillsbury-Foster, where she writes:

"The book, "Stealing Elections," was written as cover for plans already in motion. When did those Diebold Machines have their software installed? Who wrote it? We really need a time line here. When his book hit the market John was disappointed that it did not get more of the same kind of treatment that routinely is accorded to Ann Coulter's vitriolic offerings. But he was supposed to have finished it several years before, so what could he expect? Disinformation tools have deadlines.

"Diebold Machines, purged lists, a book that positions election fraud as committed primarily by Democrats; When you put the means for stealing in place in advance it is no accident. This corporate strategy, intended to cement the control of their markets so that America becomes one big company town, is theft on a scale that boggles the mind. The means for stealing elections have multiplied over the years. No new technology is left unplumbed for its possibilities for ensuring the corporations their continued stream of income. John and his cadre of pundits and media personalities, for instance Sean Hannity, simulate popular opinion. Their think tanks, like Cato, are to persuade us to accept their ideas. They are paid a lot, so they must know, right?"

Here's the bottom line for me. There is no question in my mind and heart that Congressman Ron Paul is the only true statesman in Washington, D.C., in my lifetime and the only man who can take on what will be happening by the end of this year on the economy, endless wars and other issues. Last week I read the most superb, concise explanation on Ron Paul and his candidacy. Thomas J. DiLorenzo's words rang with such sweet truth, I read it twice: The Jefferson of Our Times. This isn't just another ho-hum, rah-rah election and we cannot treat it as such.

The question is this: Had these voters not stepped forward and put their complaint on a Ron Paul blog site, would the county clerk have corrected the "error" and Dr. Paul's real vote numbers entered as official results? Does her excuse ring true? Not to those of us who have been into the vote fraud issue for so long. How many more missing votes are there for Ron Paul?

This whole process is a travesty. Ron Paul is moving on to the next primaries, but what about the mess left behind? He simply can't afford not to get those delegate votes. One thing people aren't paying enough attention to is that each of these primary "events" gets the candidate convention delegates. Go to this news item which gives the delegate count. Ron Paul has zero. If he doesn't start racking up those convention delegates, forget the White House. He can't do that if the vote is being stolen because those delegates hinge on the vote. Rasmussen had Dr. Paul at 14% for New Hampshire. FAUX had him at 8% all day and the machines made sure it stayed that way to the final "count." The chatter all over electronic and print media the day following the primary: all these polling orgs have egg on their faces! It's called eating their own when it's expedient - place the blame away from the true culprit. The bull, the cape and the matador.

I don't know who is advising Dr. Paul or if he's even being told what's going on. There is no shame in a candidate paying for a hand recount. The shame is doing nothing about it and moving on as if everything is okay. It's not. Look at all these dedicated Americans fighting for every vote for Ron Paul. Is his campaign simply going to blow off this fight for his votes? In four days it's Michigan, the same thing happens and his campaign just says, oh well, off to the next state?

Right now the polls are showing Congressman Paul at a pathetic 4% for South Carolina. That state is considered a crucial one, yet South Carolina is going to use voting machines banned in other states! (see here) There will be NO delegates for Dr. Paul if this happens because the machines will keep the vote count below 10%. Take ten minutes to watch this test of a vote counting machinewhere 6 no votes and 2 yes votes are fed into it. The demonstrator confidently hits the button to get the vote tally. The results: 7 yes and 1 no. The demonstrator is shocked. Not me. This is what's happening to our elections and Ron Paul is the number one target in the presidential race on the GOP side.

If this continues into "Super Tuesday," Feb. 5th, it will be all over for Ron Paul. If there isn't some accountability at this stage, we're going to see more of the same. Same old game I've watched for 14 long years when I became aware of fraud fraud. As hard as this quiet, decent and honorable man has worked during his candidacy and for all the dedicated supporters of his, how can you simply over look what's going on and not challenge it? What message does that send to supporters? How can a candidate expect his ground troops to get out there and fight for every vote for him, if the candidate won't even make the effort to verify every vote has been counted fairly when there is evidence of vote tampering? It's not money for a hand recount because we have opened our wallets big time. There are things that simply must take priority.

I've encouraged Ron Paul supporters to continue contacting his NH Campaign HQ and ask them if there is going to be any audit of a dozen or so precincts. So far, several have gotten no where with claims by the staff that they don't know anything about what's going on with the vote count! This bothers me to no end. There has to be a fight for honest votes by the candidate, otherwise hope dwindles and so will the cash. So will the hope. Nobody had any wild and unrealistic expectations Dr. Paul would win New Hampshire, but his massive number of wins in straw polls simply doesn't jive with the alleged vote Tuesday night.

AT&T and Other ISPs May Be Getting Ready to Filter

For the past fifteen years, Internet service providers have acted - to use an old cliche - as wide-open information super-highways, letting data flow uninterrupted and unimpeded between users and the Internet.

But ISPs may be about to embrace a new metaphor: traffic cop.
At a small panel discussion about digital piracy here at NBC's booth on the Consumer Electronics Show floor, representatives from NBC, Microsoft, several digital filtering companies and telecom giant AT&T said the time was right to start filtering for copyrighted content at the network level.

Such filtering for pirated material already occurs on sites like YouTube and Microsoft's Soapbox, and on some university networks.

Network-level filtering means your Internet service provider ? Comcast, AT&T, EarthLink, or whoever you send that monthly check to ? could soon start sniffing your digital packets, looking for material that infringes on someone's copyright.

?What we are already doing to address piracy hasn't been working. There's no secret there,? said James Cicconi, senior vice president, external & legal affairs for AT&T.

Mr. Cicconi said that AT&T has been talking to technology companies, and members of the MPAA and RIAA, for the last six months about implementing digital fingerprinting techniques on the network level.

?We are very interested in a technology based solution and we think a network-based solution is the optimal way to approach this,? he said. ?We recognize we are not there yet but there are a lot of promising technologies. But we are having an open discussion with a number of content companies, including NBC Universal, to try to explore various technologies that are out there.?

Internet civil rights organizations oppose network-level filtering, arguing that it amounts to Big Brother monitoring of free speech, and that such filtering could block the use of material that may fall under fair-use legal provisions ? uses like parody, which enrich our culture.

Clear Evidence Of Vote Fraud In NH

There were several major vote fraud issues to arise out of the New Hampshire primary revolving mainly around Ron Paul and Barack Obama, who were both seemingly cheated out of third and first places respectively as a result of rigged Diebold voting machines and deliberate malfeasance in the counting of hand-written paper ballots.

- Obama had a 13 to 15 point lead over Hillary Clinton heading into the primary. Nothing occured that boosted Hillary's numbers immediately before the election, in fact immediately after the staged crying incident, many pundits argued it could only have harmed her chances. And yet Hillary somehow managed to instigate a near 20 point swing to defeat Obama by three per cent. If not for her 7% swing as a result of Diebold voting machines, Hillary would have lost to Obama. If Obama was struggling he would probably contest this bizarre outcome, but he is likely to accept the results simply to save face.

- The New Hampshire town of Sutton admits that it voided every vote Ron Paul received. The Congressman got 31 votes and yet due to a "human error," Sutton reported zero votes for Ron Paul. How "human error" can explain not counting 31 votes in succession for one single candidate is beyond the pale and Ron Paul's campaign should ask for a recount across New Hampshire immediately.

- As soon as people went public with the fact that their votes in Sutton had not been counted, other districts where Paul had supposedly received zero votes, such as Greenville, suddenly changed their final tallies and attributed votes to the Congressman. Going into New Hampshire Ron Paul was polling in the early teens and was a strong bet to take third place behind McCain and Romney. Four days before the vote, Rasmussen had Paul at 14% - a significant lead over Huckabee on 11% and Giuliani on 8% - and yet Ron Paul finished with just 8%. Proof of clear vote fraud, allied with the fact that Paul's numbers show a 6% swing from normally accurate pre-polling forecasts, clearly indicate chicanery was at hand, especially considering the fact that Paul lost those crucial few percentage points to Giuliani as a reuslt of electronic Diebold voting machines which are known to be wide open to tampering and fraud.

- Going purely on hand-counts, which as we saw in Sutton were by no means angelic but at least harder to cheat on than Diebold voting machines without getting caught, Ron Paul would have won 15% of the vote and finished third. This figure would have more accurately correlated to the pre-primary polls rather than the ridiculous 8% he was eventually given.

- Numerous districts reported totals of anything up to 22% for "other candidates". What on earth does this black hole of "other candidates" mean? How can one vote for a candidate that is not on the ballot without spoiling the ballot paper? The district of Lisbon reported 22.5% votes for this mysterious "other" candidate, while in the large district of Londonderry, the "other" candidate received 10%. Many are now alleging that these "other" votes were merely siphoned from Ron Paul to keep his final number low.

- Rudy Giuliani, the 9/11 candidate who beat Ron Paul thanks to the aid of a 3% swing on Diebold voting machines, received 9.11% of the vote in three different towns. Coincidence or somebody's idea of a sick joke?

The break-up of the union now appears inevitable

With nationalism on the rise in every corner, 2008 will see the UK stretched to breaking point. Yet still Westminster is oblivious

Gordon Brown's acknowledgment on Tuesday that 2008 will be "an important year for the union" was an understatement. It will be crucial. Who could have forecast 12 months ago that Britain would be starting 2008 with nationalist parties in power, or sharing it, in all three devolved administrations? Last year was supposed to have been a celebration of the 300th anniversary of the Act of Union. In fact it was about dismantling it: the SNP is now running Holyrood; Plaid Cymru is in coalition with Labour in Cardiff; and the nationalist Sinn Féin shares power with the DUP in Stormont. It is the unionist nightmare come true: a separatist clean sweep.

The rise of provincial nationalism was by far the most significant political development in Britain in the last year - far more important than the election-that-never-was, or the change of personnel at No 10. Brown is intending to pursue largely the same political and social agenda as his predecessor, but he will soon discover that large parts of the UK are now resistant to it.
Already, Scotland has a range of distinctive social policies - free personal care, free higher education, free prescriptions - some of which have aroused resentment in the south. But this is only the start. In 2008 the nationalist first minister, Alex Salmond, intends to scrap the council tax and replace it with a local income tax - a move that will cause disquiet among English pensioners. Salmond has the powers and the votes to do it, and has already frozen council tax in Scotland.

The Scottish government has also served notice that it intends to repatriate powers to Holyrood over firearms - primarily in order to ban air weapons - and also over immigration and broadcasting. The home secretary, Jacqui Smith, has said no, but that is unlikely to stop Salmond, who also intends to challenge Brown's cherished policy of public private partnerships.

Salmond intends to step up demands for a share of North Sea oil revenues, while, to top it all, the Scottish government has made it emphatically clear that it will have nothing to do with a new generation of nuclear power stations, expected to be announced today.

The first minister is an inspired opportunist who has discovered that even a minority administration can achieve a great deal within and without the terms of the Scotland Act.

Westminster has yet to come to terms with it, but legislative dissonance is likely to become one of the defining features of UK politics. The pace of policy differentiation is increasing dramatically as the subordinate legislatures begin to feel their strength. They are now feeding off each other, and joining in tactical alliances. In 2007 the Scottish government joined with Stormont to call for powers to vary the rate of corporation tax. Northern Ireland wants to cut business taxes, to compete with the Irish Republic; Scotland is saying, "me too".

The Scottish parliament has borrowed the policy of free prescription charges from the Welsh assembly. Meanwhile Cardiff has used Holyrood as a template on which to model its own demands for primary legislative powers. This is a relentless process which will lead inexorably to power draining to the peripheral governments of the UK. "Permanent devolution", as Trotsky might have said.

Whisper it, but Labour in Scotland is now closer to the SNP than it is to Brown. Wendy Alexander, the Scottish Labour leader, has defied her own prime minister by declaring that devolution is "a process, not an event", and that the Scottish parliament needs to have greater powers. Brown had told Scots at the launch of Labour's Scottish election campaign that more powers were not on the cards for Holyrood.

The PM told the House of Commons in December that people in Scotland had to recognise that devolution was not the same as federalism. But the way things are going, federalism looks like the least worst option for Westminster.

In another significant development in 2007, the Conservative leader David Cameron endorsed the plan for an English grand committee in Westminster, composed of English MPs. The idea is that this body would handle England-only bills under the rubric "English votes for English laws". But it would rapidly evolve into a de facto English parliament. If such a body is set up - perhaps after a coalition deal with the Liberal Democrats, who also support an English Parliament - federalism is inevitable.

There is unstoppable momentum now behind the disaggregation of the UK, and time is running out for the political establishment in Westminster to respond. This country is changing - and, it has to be said, largely for the better, as the old centralised apparatus disintegrates before regional democracy. Now that the unionist parties in Scotland have all but given up, the UK faces a choice: adopt some form of federal solution, or prepare for political disintegration, on the lines of Czechoslovakia's "velvet divorce" in 1993. It is as serious as that. While Brown launches fatuous "Britishness" campaigns, the very fabric of the country he claims to love is being torn up and stitched anew.
