Mobile phone radiation wrecks your sleep
Phone makers' own scientists discover that bedtime use can lead to headaches, confusion and depression

Radiation from mobile phones delays and reduces sleep, and causes headaches and confusion, according to a new study.

The research, sponsored by the mobile phone companies themselves, shows that using the handsets before bed causes people to take longer to reach the deeper stages of sleep and to spend less time in them, interfering with the body's ability to repair damage suffered during the day.

The findings are especially alarming for children and teenagers, most of whom – surveys suggest – use their phones late at night and who especially need sleep. Their failure to get enough can lead to mood and personality changes, ADHD-like symptoms, depression, lack of concentration and poor academic performance.

The study – carried out by scientists from the blue-chip Karolinska Institute and Uppsala University in Sweden and from Wayne State University in Michigan, USA – is thought to be the most comprehensive of its kind.

Published by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology's Progress in Electromagnetics Research Symposium and funded by the Mobile Manufacturers Forum, representing the main handset companies, it has caused serious concern among top sleep experts, one of whom said that there was now "more than sufficient evidence" to show that the radiation "affects deep sleep".

The scientists studied 35 men and 36 women aged between 18 and 45. Some were exposed to radiation that exactly mimicked what is received when using mobile phones; others were placed in precisely the same conditions, but given only "sham" exposure, receiving no radiation at all.

The people who had received the radiation took longer to enter the first of the deeper stages of sleep, and spent less time in the deepest one. The scientists concluded: "The study indicates that during laboratory exposure to 884 MHz wireless signals components of sleep believed to be important for recovery from daily wear and tear are adversely affected."

The embarrassed Mobile Manufacturers Forum played down the results, insisting – at apparent variance with this published conclusion – that its "results were inconclusive" and that "the researchers did not claim that exposure caused sleep disturbance".

But Professor Bengt Arnetz, who led the study, says: "We did find an effect from mobile phones from exposure scenarios that were realistic. This suggests that they have measurable effects on the brain."

He believes that the radiation may activate the brain's stress system, "making people more alert and more focused, and decreasing their ability to wind down and fall asleep".

About half of the people studied believed themselves to be "electrosensitive", reporting symptoms such as headaches and impaired cognitive function from mobile phone use. But they proved to be unable to tell if they had been exposed to the radiation in the test.

This strengthens the conclusion of the study, as it disposes of any suggestion that knowledge of exposure influenced sleeping patterns. Even more significantly, it throws into doubt the relevance of studies the industry relies on to maintain that the radiation has no measurable effects.

A series of them – most notably a recent highly publicised study at Essex University – have similarly found that people claiming to be electrosensitive could not distinguish when the radiation was turned on in laboratory conditions, suggesting that they were not affected.

Critics have attacked the studies' methodology, but the new findings deal them a serious blow. For they show that the radiation did have an effect, even though people could not tell when they were exposed.

It also complements other recent research. A massive study, following 1,656 Belgian teenagers for a year, found most of them used their phones after going to bed. It concluded that those who did this once a week were more than three times – and those who used them more often more than five times – as likely to be "very tired".

Dr Chris Idzikowski, the director of the Edinburgh Sleep Centre, says: "There is now more than sufficient evidence, from a large number of reputable investigators who are finding that mobile phone exposure an hour before sleep adversely affects deep sleep."

Dr William Kohler of the Florida Sleep Institute added: "Anything that disrupts the integrity of your sleep will potentially have adverse consequences in functioning during the day, such as grouchiness, difficulty concentrating, and in children hyperactivity and behaviour problems."

David Schick, the chief executive of Exradia, which manufactures protective devices against the radiation, called on ministers to conduct "a formal public inquiry" into the effects of mobile phones.

Parasites That Control Behavior
Sometimes real science is stranger than fiction. Stanford Professor Robert Sapolsky describes a number of examples of parasites or infectious microbes that modify behavior in a Scientific American review article titled "Bugs in the Brain" (pdf)*. Some examples from the review and recent scientific literature:

• The rabies virus increases saliva production and makes the infected host aggressive. When a rabid animal bites a host the virus is spread via saliva in the wound.

• Toxiplasma gondii causes infected rodents to specifically lose their inborn aversion to cat pheromones. This behavior is beneficial to toxiplasma, because it sexually reproduces in cats that have eaten infected mice and rats (original article). Infected cats in turn spread toxiplasma through their droppings. People infected with toxiplasma also exhibit behavioral changes, particularly a decrease in "novelty seeking". It's been proposed that toxiplasma infection has actually changed human culture, since there is a correlation between countries with a high rate of toxiplasma infection and increased neuroticism, uncertainty avoidance, and "masculine" sex roles.

• Grasshoppers infected with the hairworm (Spinochordodes tellinii become more likely to jump into water where the hair worm reproduces. The parasite essentially makes its host suicidal to further its own reproduction.

• Some trematodes that infect the brackish water crustacean, gammaridean anthropod cause changes in behavior that make the hosts more likely to move towards light and exhibit aberrant "suicidal" evasive behaviors. These behavioral changes make the infected crustacean more likely to be eaten by birds, which the trematode uses as a host for the next stage in its life cycle (pdf).

• Plasmodium, the cause of malaria, affects both its mosquito and animal hosts. Mosquitoes that drink plasmodium-infected blood initially become more cautious about finding another victim, giving plasmodium time to replicate. Once the plasmodium is infective, mosquitoes become more likely to bite more than one person in a night, and spend more time drinking blood. In turn, once a person is infected with plasmodium, he become more attractive to mosquitoes, continuing the life cycle of the parasite. (See "Malaria Parasite Makes You More Attractive (To Parasites)" New York Times, August 9, 2005). Plasmodium can also affect the nervous system. Infection of juvenile canaries with plasmodium affects the song control pathway in the brain, resulting in simpler songs as adults. (Pubmed).

Of course this research is fertile ground for science fiction. Parasites are often used as a crude form of brain control; the brain-controlling parasites in The Wrath of Khan or the brain slugs in Futurama, are examples of this.

Personally, I prefer microbes with more subtle and interesting behavioral effects. An example of such a story is David Brin's, "The Giving Plague", in which a virus that causes altruism infects the human population. You can read "The Giving Plague" on David Brin's web site.

Gaza - Genocide & Media Lies

During this past week, Israeli military forces invaded civilian villages trapped within Gaza's closed borders with tanks, helicopters, warplanes, and drones, massacring 39 and wounding over 100, including scores of unarmed children, babies and women.
Israel says this is punishment for the homemade Qassam rockets fired this week toward Sderot. The total number of Israelis killed by these Qassams was Zero.

The Wall Street Journal (WSJ) headlines on January 18th, based on a story from the Associated Press (AP), state, "Israel Temporarily Closes Gaza Border Crossings." This is a wildly misleading statement. Israel has had the Gaza borders sealed off since 2000, trapping the 1.5 million civilians living in the Gaza Strip as prisoners in their own homes. Completely trapped, they cannot escape the wrath or whims of the Israeli military. Empowered by its massive and brutal military, Israel has been systematically ethnically cleansing Palestine of native Palestinians for 60 years now. What Israel has been doing and continues to do to the Palestinians, especially those it has trapped without mercy inside Gaza, is full-blown genocide but Israel is getting away with murder due to misinformation continuously sold to the public as "news." The long-closed border crossings surrounding Gaza have been keeping Gaza residents in a state of misery and poverty for years. In 2007, Israel began an escalated denial of food and other necessary supplies to Gaza after Israel declared the civilian population of Gaza to be a "hostile entity."

The WSJ/AP article then creates a masterful soft-pedaling of Israeli atrocities by stating, "Palestinians living in Gaza have had to live without some foodstuffs and basic supplies like spare car parts and computer paper." The truth, however, is far from the laughable "spare car parts" line. The truth is not laughable. It is horrifying.

The truth is that the Israeli government has refused to allow the following supplies into Gaza: bottled water, food, soap, medical supplies, medications, anesthesia for its growing number of sick and injured, paper, emergency relief funds from abroad, simple care packages, adequate supplies from the UN, winter clothing, electricity, fuel, postal service (US Postal Workers in Tallahassee told me, "there is no Palestine"), cement to repair the numerous Palestinian refugee homes repeatedly bombed and demolished by Israel tanks and warplanes (and a lot of cement is very badly needed as much of Gaza is in ruins), and even batteries for the growing number of hearing aids now needed by those who are shellshocked in Gaza. At this time, there is no clean water in Gaza, nor is there adequate fuel or electricity. (3)

Regarding the outright genocide and humanitarian catastrophe now taking place in Gaza, the WSJ/AP article reassures the reader that there is nothing to worry about, stating that according to Israeli spokesman Shlomo Dror, "Gazans had enough food that no one would go hungry." Further seeking to reassure us, Mr. Dror gives the following statement: "There is a government decision that there will not be a humanitarian crisis in Gaza." Mr. Dror, however, speaks of the future while ignoring the past and the misery of the present, leaving one to wonder at what point the Israelis will view the collective punishment of 1.5 million thirsty, hungry, and increasingly homeless civilians as a "humanitarian crisis." Gross increases of malnutrition were noted as early as 2002 due to the continuing Israeli border closure and denial of adequate food to these civilians, many of whom are refugees forced off their other Palestinian lands taken from them by Israel. According to the World Food Program, anemia rates due to malnutrition have now risen to over 77%. (4)

In addition to the Gaza civilians being made homeless and collectively punished by starvation, thirst and Israeli-imposed filth and neglect, during the past few months over 70 medical patients have needlessly perished while awaiting medical treatment, because the Israeli government denied them permission to pass throughGaza's completely closed borders. (5)

There are many ways to decimate unarmed, or primitively armed native populations when a brutally armed military force desires to move in and take their land away from them. For the past 60 years, Zionist Israel has used many methods in an attempt to drive the Palestinians from their ancestral lands. Among those methods is repeated, total destruction of their property.

As the Israeli military continues to drive Palestinians from their land, Zionist Israel has also depended on its worldwide mainstream presses to hide all of the rather shocking details from the general public, as well as from their own Israeli citizens. Many Israelis do not know that each of the Jewish-only "settlements" dotting the Palestinian countryside has been illegally built upon land forcefully taken from the Palestinians without compensation. Not a single settlement can be built unless further land is again forcefully taken from the Palestinian owners. This has been easily done, however, because only the military aggressor who covets this land is armed with tanks, warplanes, and other sophisticated equipment.

The real information detailing what is going on in Gaza and the rest of Palestine will not be easily found in mainstream media. The majority of the mainstream media brings us "news" written in such a way that it is unfairly biased in favor of the Zionist aggressors, while downplaying or completely dismissing the slaughter of Palestinians by continuously referring to these victims as "terrorists," "armed militants," or "wanted."

Independent journalists, on the other hand, appear to have taken the investigation of world events far more seriously. They tend to try and find the truth via firsthand accounts, which they then share with the world. One such independent, freelance journalist is Sarah Price. Sarah, who is based in Los Angeles, visited Gaza in October, 2007, to see for herself what was happening there.

At the time of her visit last October, special arrangements had to be made in order for her to cross the borders that continue to be closed and guarded by the Israeli military.
Once inside the closed borders, she saw the grim reality of everyday life in Gaza. She heard the constant noise of the Israeli military presence, she saw the children smiling one moment and panic-stricken the next following Israeli air strikes. She saw the truth about the food situation that Israel is now trying to hide from the world's eyes. The vendors in the markets had only rotting and spoiled fruits to sell, but none of it was discarded. (6)

"It will still be gone in an hour," Sarah quotes physician and human rights advocate, Dr. Mona El-Farra, as saying, "because they have to eat something." (7)

With the borders tightly closed and no one able to easily see what the Israeli military is doing, during the past week Israeli forces comprised of tanks, warplanes and helicopters invaded again civilian refugee villages in Gaza, destroying more buildings and homes, while also massacring 39 innocent men women and children. In addition, over 100 civilians were wounded, a large percentage of them children, compounding problems for both patients and hospitals, due to Israeli denial of medical supplies.

As the Israeli Apache choppers and warplanes roared over Gaza Strip targeting homes at random as well as shelling a wedding party in which one woman was killed and scores of children were injured, an Israeli drone flew off on its own mindless mission, and without conscience or warning it singled out and slaughtered a mother and her two sons who were riding home on a donkey cart carrying oranges. Medical personnel had trouble identifying these victims from the fragments and pieces that were left by the vicious drone attack. (8)

According to WSJ/AP, the latest announcement of "temporary" border closing and air strikes are due to "recent rocket barrages" fired toward the southern Israeli town of Sderot. (Sderot is built upon the Palestine village of Nadj.) The WSJ/AP article goes on to quote ministry spokesman Shlomo Dror again, this time saying, "'It's time that Hamas decide to either fight or take care of its population,' he said. 'It's unacceptable that people in Sderot are living in fear every day and people in the Gaza Strip are living life as usual.'"

One wonders what "life as usual" must be like for the 1.5 million hungry prisoners of Gaza. One also might wonder what sort of weaponry Mr. Dror expects the Hamas to use as he challenges the Hamas to fight the Israeli military. The Palestinians have no access to tanks, Blackhawks, Apaches, drones, blimps, F-16s, armored vehicles, gunboats, or nuclear weapons, all of which are possessed by Israel. What does Mr. Dror expect the Hamas to fight with against the massive Israeli army, navy, and air force?

John Llewellin: Died last month
A mobile phone company is to remove a mast from a block of flats after seven residents were struck down by cancer.

Three have died and another four have battled the disease since two masts were erected on the roof of the five-storey block which has become known locally as the Tower of Doom.

The cancer rate on the top floor - where residents of five of the eight flats have been affected and the three who died all lived - is 20 per cent, ten times the national average.

Residents of Berkeley House in Staple Hill, Bristol, also complain of terrible headaches and other ailments which they blame on radiation from the masts.

Orange has agreed to remove its mast after a five-year campaign by residents and pressure from the local authority. But it has caused anger with plans to move it to a residential street nearby.

The other mast belongs to Vodafone, which has no plans to move it.

The most recent death was that of John Llewellin, 63, who lost his battle against bowel cancer two weeks ago.

Defending free speech costly

Congratulations on the excellent article on Arthur Topham.

There is a wholesale attack on free speech on the Internet under way in Canada under Sec. 13 of the Canadian Human Rights Act.

Under this obscure but totalitarian provision, truth is no defence, intent is no defence. All that is necessary for a conviction and finding of
discrimination is that the writer make comments "likely to expose" a privileged ethnic, religious or sexual minority to " ³hatred or contempt."

I've represented as a legal agent a number of the victims of this censorship law ­ young people usually too poor to afford the $20,000 or more legal fees they need for such a hearing.

Rulings show that "contempt" is any criticism of these privileged groups.

In the 29 years this law has been in force ­ first, aimed at political messages on telephone answering machines, and more recently postings on the
Internet ­ no victim has ever been acquitted. That¹s right: a 100 per cent conviction rate against freedom of speech.

There¹s a good reason for this. Unlike a real court, the "member" or person sitting in judgement is specially chosen for his/her bias for the prosecution.

Tribunal members are to have "special knowledge or and sensitivity" to human rights. That may sound benign. However, it means a special bias to group rights, as opposed to the accused¹s individual right to freedom of speech, freedom of belief and freedom of the press.

In Arthur Topham¹s case, it is outrageous he should be up on a complaint for criticizing the policies of a foreign state, Israel. The Zionists who took
over the land of others, the Palestinians, both Christian and Muslim, have much to answer for and should not be immune to criticism.

His tormentor, the League for Human Rights of B¹nai Brith, sadly has, for the past few years, tried to make criticism of Israel a criminal offence.

Arthur Topham deserves our support in the costly battle ahead.

Hundreds of medicinal plants are at risk of extinction, threatening the discovery of future cures for disease, according to experts.
Over 50% of prescription drugs are derived from chemicals first identified in plants.

But the Botanic Gardens Conservation International said many were at risk from over-collection and deforestation.

Researchers warned the cures for things such as cancer and HIV may become "extinct before they are ever found".

The group, which represents botanic gardens across 120 countries, surveyed over 600 of its members as well as leading university experts.

They identified 400 plants that were at risk of extinction.

These included yew trees, the bark of which forms the basis for one of the world's most widely used cancer drugs, paclitaxel.

Hoodia, which originally comes from Namibia and is attracting interest from drug firms looking into developing weight loss drugs, is on the verge of extinction, the report said.

And half of the world's species of magnolias are also under threat.

The plant contains the chemical honokiol, which has been used in traditional Chinese medicine to treat cancers and slow down the onset of heart disease.

The report also said autumn crocus, which is a natural treatment for gout and has been linked to helping fight leukaemia, is at risk of over-harvest as it is popular with the horticultural trade because of its stunning petals.

Many of the chemicals from the at-risk plants are now created in the lab.

But the report said as well as future breakthroughs being put at risk, the situation was likely to have a consequence in the developing world.

It said five billion people still rely on traditional plant-based medicine as their primary form of health care.

Report author Belinda Hawkins said: "The loss of the world's medicinal plants may not always be at the forefront of the public consciousness.

"However, it is not an overstatement to say that if the precipitous decline of these species is not halted, it could destabilise the future of global healthcare."

And Richard Ley, of the Association of the British Pharmaceutical Industry, added: "Nature has provided us with many of our medicines.

"Scientists are always interested in what they can provide and so it is a worry that such plants may be at risk."

Saddam Hussein was suckered by Bush using a top U.S. official, telling Saddam it is purely a local matter of no interest to the U.S., for Iraq to seize a portion of Kuwait long-claimed by Saddam as an Iraqi province and oilfield. For sending U.S. soldiers in harms way and suffering post-war Persian Gulf Syndrome, the Emir of Kuwait reportedly bribed Bush. The proceeds went, in part, to and through reputed Bush identified accounts in Arab Bank Corporation, Monaco. Fifteen thousand U.S. military since 1991 have died of the strange malady and eighty five thousand are either in dying condition or suffering horrible debilities. In addition, Bush reportedly received from the Emir 15 million dollars in gold. This is all forbidden by the U.S. Constitution, Article I, Section 9: "No title of Nobility shall be granted by the United States; And no Person holding any Office of Profit or Trust under them, shall, without the consent of the Congress, accept of any present, Emolument, Office, of Title, of any kind whatever, FROM ANY KING, PRINCE, OR FOREIGN STATE." (Emphasis added.) What Bush did is also in violation of federal statute, as noted by the Senior Treasury official in his hand-written notations.

Emprise Corp., in turn has been a major stockholder of Chicago-based Bally Manufacturing Company that has been the largest manufacturer of pinball and slot machines used in gambling casinos, too often under criminal domination. Published accounts link Emprise to Cosa Nostra families in at least two cities. In 1976, well-known Arizona reporter, Don Bolles, was investigating Emprise and intending to write about them. He was murdered by a car bombing, his last words included the word "Emprise".

The reported mobster details of the Jacobs Family and their Emprise Corporation and Sportsystems are in a long series of press reports. Such as: Chicago Sun-Times, 9/16/71, 11/28/72, 5/15/72, 1/16/72. Chicago Daily News [now defunct] 4/28/72, in their issue 4/24/72 it was said, after describing them as a mob-linked concession company, "The company, Emprise Corp., of Buffalo, N.Y., has made millions of dollars in loans available to major league baseball teams, race tracks and other sports enterprises. The Jacobs Family runs the dog racing tracks in Arkansas, popular there and has contributed heavily to the "campaigns" of Bush family crony, William Rockefeller Clinton.

So, with his reputed criminal enterprises the Elder Bush was in safe hands running his game, with the help of Alan Redspan, through Marine Midland Bank of Buffalo. In more recent years, the Marine Midland Bank has merged with the British and Chinese royalty-owned, Hong Kong & Shanghai Bank. One of those of Chinese royalty, now residing in the Midwest, is the reputed North American chief of the Red Chinese Secret Police. He has a direct link by FAX to the White House. When we fingered him in 1997, he arranged with the FBI to block the website on which my story about him with his name, address, and phone number was posted.

The reportedly authentic hand-written notes of the Senior Official of the U.S. Treasury detailing and summarizing the numbers and accounts that go with some of the details here, dealt with twenty five banks used by the Bush family, which tend to incriminate them in reportedly illicit trafficking and bribery funds. The Bush Family reported criminality overlaps that of William Rockefeller Clinton, a close family crony of the Elder Bush, going back to the time Clinton was a college student in England and spied on the Peace Movement in Europe under the auspices of the CIA Station Chief in London, as arranged by the Elder Bush.

The Al Gore Campaign Committee reportedly paid upwards of one million dollars for a fairly recent picture made undercover by the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration[not 30 years ago]. It ostensibly shows George W. Bush[now Texas Governor] snorting cocaine with Bill Clinton. CBS Network apparently found out we were working on this several part story. Result: recently CBS's "60 Minutes" Program put up a "straw man" to knock down, to divert attention. "60 Minutes" referred to supposedly shocking allegations against former President Bush. They were made by a team made up of Mark Phillips and his apparent girl friend, Cathy O'Brien, in their book with a double-meaning title, "The Trance Formation of America". She claims she was put into a trance and became a "sex slave" by high government officials, including George Herbert Walker Bush.


Several years ago this couple were set to be guests on my public access Cable TV Program cablecast within Chicago. Before coming here, Mark Phillips called me as the producer/moderator of the show, and insisted on the following conditions: [1] all my questions were to be put in writing and submitted to them in advance and [2] I was to make a written, ironclad guarantee that I as the moderator would NOT ask them or her any "negative questions". Before we get to Whey & Sucralose and the regrettable shortfalls of the "Dead Doctor's Don't Lie" Guy... Dr. Joel Wallach, let me give the impetus for taking him to task in this piece...

Folks, CODEX is coming! CODEX is an official movement looming to facilitate corrupt Politicians & the Pharmz Industry. These are entities controlling your health care so as to maximize a profit only to them and to a cabal of MD's shilling for them. With CODEX, if you want to take supplements -taken for granted now- you will have to get a prescription from an MD to buy an expensively inferior Supplement, likely, manufactured to "rigged-standards" by the evil Pharmaceutical Industry, in their stead. Predictably, all Calcium will be "Carbonate" - all Magnesium will be "Oxide"! All Vit. E will be synthetic "DL." All supp's will be crap, crap & more crap - "from A to Zinc"! Ummm... sort of like "Centrum" [tm].

CODEX, you see, is a program designed to give the already rich Pharmz industry, along with their pawns -the AMA, the FDA, and the best Politicians money can buy - almost complete control over every aspect of your nutrition & health-care. This is so they can have complete control over YOU, reader!

This "new world order" boondoggle is sweeping through Europe, already! Consequently, we already see the lies & misdirection utilized there to convince trusting "Sheeple" stateside that CODEX is all about protecting our health and welfare... you know, much like the IRS is only there to help.

You see, they maintain they're protecting the consumer by putting all "Supplemental-Charlatans" & "Snake-Oil Salesmen" out of business. So, CODEX, convincingly if duplicitously, conveniently points to rip-off crap like "SeaSilver", "Body-Balance", "Nutria", "FrequenSea" & many more as so-called good reasons for imposing a seemingly necessary CODEX on ALL the rest...

Folks! Here is why that argument is completely fatuous! If the objective is to protect us from Snake-Oil Salesmen? Then, with my blessing, *they* should have a powerful and well funded Government Agency testing every supplement for potency, purity, full- disclosure labeling & general efficacy, along with every other consumable meat, dairy and produce! These official purity and standards agencies become increasingly under-funded, as spare as they are rare.

All flagrant violators would be summarily sterilized... I mean "get tough"! That "SeaSilver" guy would be singing high falsetto in a "Boys Choir" when I was done with him. But that's not the interest, reader. The interest is to qualify their dodgy pharmz at the expense of the quality supplements that are available today!

See, accomplish the goal in a fair way, like I suggest above (OK, maybe without the castration) -but not in an evil power-play where the only way to get Supp's is to go through a freaking MD, a suspicious entity ironically demonstrating over & over again that his goal is to keep you sick by only treating symptoms, doing nothing to prevent or fix the problem, so he can "manage" your disease for the rest of your miserable life- extracting maximum revenue from that misery with a smile and a back-rub.

Believe me Folks, the Pharmz industry & their "lock-step" MD's will manipulate every facet of their new *gift* of regulated Supplements -that they'd control- to insure we, collectively, take even more toxic Pharmz for the rest of our lives.

Honestly, I should go to work for the Pharmaceutical Industry... eh? I could show them all sorts of underhanded, sneaky ways to make Supplements work for them & against YOU!

To start, make it mandatory that every citizen start the day with a Centrum (adults) & a FlintStones (children)..."yeah, that's the ticket" ...and to insure most women develop Osteoporosis & are put on "Once-a-Month" Boniva, make sure they take a huge 2000mg dose of Calcium CARBONATE every morning. "I can do that!"

Yeah boy, even Supp's causing you to need even more pricy Pharmaceuticals - Mo' Money, Mo' Money!

Consequently, it is incumbent on all of us who like a choice of quality supplements & who believe in the freedom to continue choosing! We need to speak-out against these bogus products even if our sister-in-law or church-deacon is selling the crap... eh?

So, this is where the venerable Doctor Wallach of the "Dead Doctor's Don't Lie" radio show, comes in. Doc is owner of "Youngevity Supp's" & about a half dozen subsidiary supplement companies comprising a massive MLM (multi level marketing) sales conglomerate.

Don't get me wrong, "Youngevity" has mostly great products (I especially like their liquid multi's)... I just have issue with a couple of his other products. Also, I don't have a problem with MLM except the prices are a little on the high side. Still, as long as it is a good product - then no problem.

Believe me though, reader. This is the most difficult thing I have ever felt compelled to write! I think there has been tremendous good accomplished through Doc Wallach, in the aggregate, by educating people regarding disease prevention through nutrition & knowledge of profit driven medical lies! All this far outweighs the 3 or 4 little lies he tells, or should. The problem is, though, these lies can come back to haunt you, me, him, and all the rest, eh?

Consider: the "Heavy-Hitter's" in the Holistic Community (like Doc Wallach) have to be held to a very high standard, especially when they are such a hi-profile multi-millionaire already urinating in the Post-Toastee's of every Medical Doctor out there by calling his radio show "Dead Doctor's Don't Lie"... See -- this means "Living Doctor's Do Lie"! BTW, this is a sentiment I happen to firmly believe in, and can easily prove same if you care to challenge me.
Please do. Please. I'll debate anyone anywhere, and I'll be the one using logic and science. I digress.

The Pharmz Exec's & MD's can't wait to eviscerate Dr. Wallace & his supplement empire with CODEX ...and in my humble opinion Wallach is giving them needless ammunition by doing some greedy little things in a couple of his products which are unnecessary & unhealthful (in my considered opinion), but would provide his evil enemy just such an ammunition.

The first two of these half-truths or lies I have known about for many years. Regretfully, I was willing to keep my mouth shut because I did not want to sully a guy I thought otherwise did such tremendous good... but just a week or so back from this writing he said something about Sucralose (Splenda) that was so blatant an obfuscation that it was the final straw!

A caller asked, straight out, if Sucralose -the stuff in Splenda & the doc's big selling product "Nature's Whey" Protein Powder- was safe. Doc said it was a no-calorie sweetener that came from Molasses, so he loved Sucralose.

Molasses!?! Great suffering ZOT! That's like saying Plutonium is safe because it comes from "Dirt" & we grow tomatoes in dirt!

The ONLY tenuous connection I can make between Molasses & Sucralose is that one way to make table-sugar is to extract sucrose from molasses & then you can turn the sucrose (table-sugar) into Sucralose by using an extremely long, convoluted, controversial series of CHEMICAL processes centering around the removal of 3 hydroxyl groups out of the sugar molecule and replacing them with 3 -potentially toxic- chlorine atoms. This new "Chlorinated" Sucralose molecule is the problem.

But before we do a little simple chemistry on Hydrocarbons & Chlorocarbons comprising same? I might as well quickly point out the other 2 sneaky things I would like to see corrected concerning his products and about which I'd been remiss in not reporting.

1).. "Protein Powder" - Here is how this product is described on his web-site: "Whey is the purest, richest, most complete and bio- available protein source known to man. Nature's Whey contains pure whey protein, soy protein, and various vitamins and minerals as co- factors".

Well, it's called Nature's "WHEY" & this blurb above certainly makes it sound like this is mostly "Whey Protein" - but it did mention Soy Protein... though it mentioned it second; however, so in keeping with the "Convention" (Law) that ingredients are listed in order of decreasing amounts on a label, one might assume that this product is mostly (the more expensive) Whey Protein... BUT, this 1,2 sequence of Whey & Soy was not on the label, it was in their web advertisement... Still... ...shouldn't you sorta, kinda, and mostly follow that Convention anyway? Say "yes" reader!

...OK, lets look on the label of Nature's "WHEY"....and see which item tops the list? Humm, the first item listed is not WHEY... it is Milk Protein Isolate (much cheaper than whey)! Well surely, Whey must be listed next! NO Folks, Soy Protein Isolate is next!
Whey Protein Concentrate (WPC) finally comes in third and even then, it is not the superior WPI (Whey Protein Isolate), it is the less expensive WPC, (concentrate).

What does the item sequence in this case actually mean as far as percentages of each ingredient? Well, you don't know!

You have no way of actually telling how much Whey is in there because it could shake down like the following, with a fair amount of Whey for 3rd place... 35% Milk Protein, 33% Soy, and 32% Whey = 100%... say... so the Whey could be as high as 30 to 32%. See?
But shouldn't it still be called "Nature's Milk Protein"...not "Nature's Whey"?...Whey is 3rd, Milk Protein is FIRST. C'mon!

Or, it could just as legally be a complete rip-off with the following tiny amount for 3rd place: 50% Milk, 45% Soy & only 5% Whey... you have no way of knowing. I mean if they are already trying to trick you by calling the product "Nature's WHEY", when whey is listed 3rd with respect to amounts... why not go "Full Tilt Boogie with the hammer down" and only put in a little, tiny bit of the... most expensive item?

Shoot, you could put in 99% Milk & Soy protein with only 1% Whey & the label's descending order of amounts would still be correct... legally, but what about morally and ethically? Can some of you sales-people for this stuff tell me the percentage of whey? I didn't think so.

Also in ref. to the Soy in this product... it is Soy Isolate, which most credible holistic practitioners would say is very unhealthful crap because of Phytates, Oxalates & Phyto-estrogen! Can you say Cartman's "boy boobies"? It's the estrogen, Booby!

In fact, on any day of the week you can get Pharmacist Ben Fuchs (he fills in for Doc Wallach quite often) to readily admit that Soy Isolate has a very "Dark Side" (as he describes it) ...but, when one of the callers ask him about the Soy in "Nature's Whey..." Whoa Newt ...He starts back-peddling & tripping all over himself with some industrial strength Hummina, Hummina before he recovered to say, "Well, you shouldn't do too much Soy"...but wait a minute, Skippy!

... How much is too much when you consider Doc Wallach seems to encourage people to do "Nature's Whey" several times a day? OK, I've beat that enough. On to:

2).. "Nature's WHEY" Protein Snack Bars - Here is the Doc's description, "...Besides the excellent whey protein, they contain selenium, calcium, glucosamine and more. When you are skipping a meal to lose weight don't skip taking in the good stuff your body needs"!

OK Folks... I searched & searched the Nutritional Facts and the Ingredients section and I did find the "selenium, calcium, glucosamine and more" - but I did not find Whey Protein anywhere in either section.

I did; however, find "Soy Protein Isolate" & the particularly evil, "Soy Protein Crisp Nuggets" but NO WHEY! Then I quickly looked to make sure the candy bar wrapper didn't say "Nature's WAY"...no, no, it says "Nature's WHEY"...I just don't quite know what to make of this... it looks a little bit like, oh, I don't know... ...a lie, you think?

No whey? No way! Though, it is just this kind humbuggery that will fuel the onslaught of an evil CODEX!

OK, now for Sucralose (Su)...the stuff in Splenda. Read Dr. Betty Martini's excellent article on Rense, ref. Sucralose http:// www.rense.com/general63/SPLENte.htm

I also happen to agree with the #1 web holistic Doc, Dr. Mercola (and many others I might add) that sucralose (Su) is not safe because it is a manmade "Chlorinated-Molecule." However, this paper is not to convince you Sucralose is unsafe, even though I hope I do - I will explain both sides of the "Chlorination" issue and then you can decide.

This essay is not about a suspect sweetener, this essay regards how a scientist like Dr. Wallach could explain the safety of his product by making this huge leap from Molasses to Sucralose without stopping off at that pesky little injection of 3 toxic atoms that "Create" Sucralose... yes, Sucralose is created.

It is not just some natural, harmless "part" of Molasses that you get after Granny stirs up a big pot of "cane-squeezins" on the wood fire... OK, that was a little bit of hyperbole, but Doc Wallach certainly never mentioned any long, intricate, man-made process of "Chlorination" that has many top holistic investigators crying foul!

Do a web search for anything resembling "How Sucralose is made" or "Sucralose processing" or "Sucralose Whatever", without mentioning Chlorine or Molasses in your query...AND then every time we see the word "Molasses" pop up in the 95,000 hits, I will give you $20... but all you have to do is give me ONE Dollar every 1,000 times you see the word Chlorine or Chlorination... I will win about $95... that's 95,000 to zero.

I'm such a nice guy I'm gonna tell you what Doc should have said, given it is... sorta-mostly true: "Sucralose is a chlorinated sugar molecule rendering this New "sugar" unrecognizable to us, so it is not metabolized, meaning it passes harmlessly out of your body!
The opposing view is that some of the Sucralose is metabolized, but the FDA has found it to be safe."

And he might have even been able to slip past some of the weak pro- Su crap that you're apt to hear..." Suracrose is safe, much like table-salt, which contains a Chlorine atom, but the toxic Chlorine atom stays locked up in the salt & is not metabolized, so we love Sucralose, Besides, chlorine is found naturally in food"...

OK, let me take issue with my own "make-believe" Pro-Su rebuttal while describing how this all works. Sugar is a hydrocarbon comprised of 12 carbon atoms with a hydroxyl group (hydrogen & oxygen) stuck to each one. 3 of these hydroxyl groups are then chemically replaced with 3 chlorine atoms changing it from a hydro- carbon to a chloro-carbon. Because it is not biocompatible with human physiology, it would appear that much if not most of the stuff goes through w/o being metabolized... the problem is, just how much, if any, is actually broken apart to release the VERY aggressive and toxic chlorine atom.

See, even the Splenda website is careful to say that the Su molecule passes harmlessly through you and almost none is metabolized, which means some IS metabolized... just "how much" is the question! BUT you cannot use the bogus sodium-chloride (table- salt) argument & here's why: Salt is not a fluorocarbon, chlorocarbon or hydrocarbon... in other words, sodium-chloride is completely inorganic, (and held together by the powerful "ionic bond"), so the body does not even try to metabolize it - unlike chlorocarbons containing organic compounds like carbon, hydrogen, oxygen, nitrogen, which -being held together with the weaker "covalent bond"- our liver will try to metabolize! See the problem? This is high school chemistry.

Because I have no way of knowing for sure...I am going to go with the conservative figure that Dr. Mercola finds to be closest to reality - which is 15% of the sucralose will be converted... yow!
I say conservative because others claim 25% & there is a Japanese study that had the figure up to 40%!

Next, it would certainly be wrong to use the FDA as credible verification of Sucralose safety, considering Dr. Wallach is always pointing out how the FDA is "in the tank" for "whomever" and "whatever"...though this is another sentiment I endorse... look at Vioxx.

Lastly, the chlorine found naturally in food is GOOD for you... it and the man-manipulated Chlorine like that found in Tap-water (and Sucralose), et al, are as different as nite & day - so forget that bogus argument.

That's about it. Do a modicum of research & I think you will agree with me! Why, take a chance with Sucralose at all when there is Stevia & Xylitol available.

For all you Youngevity (tm) associates who hate me right now... if you have a rational rebuttal, please write. If you just want to vent & call me names...go ahead, but I will put the ball right back in your court with "Don't you read & understand the labels of products you indorse & sell?" Finally, if I'm wrong, please demonstrate it to me;
I would be improved. It remains, too, I want to be a Wallach- phile...but he makes it hard to love him.

Otherwise? Move along and know you're being managed like cattle so sociopaths can prosecute their pecuniary pharmaceutical perversions, et al, upon your spirit, body, and soul. Think that doesn't require a perverted sociopath? These perverts, moreover, embrace CODEX! Chill, remember! I just bear the message.

Terror-Plane Risk Jars Faith in Nuclear Safety: Cindy Skrzycki

Jan. 15 (Bloomberg) -- Federal regulators' narrow approach to solving one of the U.S.'s biggest post-Sept. 11 fears -- a terrorist flying a plane into a nuclear power plant -- is under attack for adding to public safety concerns.

Comments filed with the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission last month were critical of the agency's Oct. 3 proposal, which directs that only some new plant designs be assessed for risk to air attack, for not going far enough.

``By requiring only a limited subset of anticipated new reactors (less than half of the currently announced plants) to address aircraft impacts as part of the design, the NRC's proposed rule could undermine public confidence in new nuclear power plants,'' George Vanderheyden, president and chief executive officer of Unistar Nuclear Energy of Baltimore, told the agency in Dec. 17 comments.

Public acceptance of plant safety is considered critical to the rebirth of the nuclear industry, where there has been a de facto moratorium on new construction since the Three Mile Island accident in 1979.

The 104 existing reactors, which supply 20 percent of U.S. electricity needs, aren't covered by the proposed rule. Neither are unbuilt reactors whose designs already have been approved by the NRC.

Unistar intends to build a new reactor at Calvert Cliffs, Maryland, one of 32 planned by 17 utilities. Its design hasn't been approved by the NRC yet, so it would need to assess the risk of a plane attack under the proposed rule.

Voluntary Risk Assessments

Other nuclear industry officials agreed with Vanderheyden. Westinghouse Electric Co. and GE-Hitachi Nuclear Energy, whose designs already have NRC approval and thus aren't covered by the proposal, said they would do the risk assessments anyway.

``We don't have to do it, but our customers would have had questions from the public on why that (plant) won't withstand an airplane crash,'' Ed Cummins, vice president of regulatory affairs and standardization at Monroeville, Pennsylvania-based Westinghouse, said in an interview. The Westinghouse design is scheduled to be used in 14 reactors now in the planning stage.

The commission and the industry say security at nuclear plants has been increased since the 2001 terrorist attacks. The agency ordered operators to do more to respond to explosions, fires and other threats.

Adding protection from air attack, such as an extra containment structure, could cost more than $100 million per reactor, according to Adrian Heymer, senior director of new plant deployment at the Nuclear Energy Institute trade group in Washington.

``This proposed rule is not necessary for adequate protection, but rather is an enhancement that will result in newly designed facilities being more inherently robust against aircraft impacts than the facilities not subject to this proposed rule,'' the agency said in introducing it.

No Radioactivity

``The NRC remains confident that even though the impact of a large aircraft would be a large industrial accident, the probability of a crash that would lead to radioactivity getting into the environment is very low,'' said spokesman Scott Burnell.

Nuclear activists scoff at the proposal.

``They are trying to conceal that they really aren't doing anything,'' said Edwin Lyman, senior staff scientist for the Union of Concerned Scientists in Washington.

The office of New York Attorney General Andrew Cuomo filed comments saying, ``It is folly to impose requirements necessary to fend off potential terrorist attacks only on new plants that won't be built for another 10-20 years, but to leave vulnerable to attack the existing fleet of 104 reactors.''

New York has four nuclear facilities, including Indian Point Energy Center in Buchanan, 24 miles north of New York City, which is owned by Entergy Corp. of New Orleans.

The Cuomo office comments noted that two of the hijacked planes on Sept. 11 flew near or over Indian Point on their way to the World Trade Center. It recommended that all aircraft be covered, not just the large jetliners cited in the proposal.

Opponents say it is imperative that a new generation of nuclear reactors be built to withstand an air attack.

``If you build in a post-9/11 world, you better damn well be able to withstand an airliner attack,'' said Jim Riccio, nuclear policy analyst for Greenpeace USA in Washington.

Some critics, including one NRC commissioner, complained that the proposal doesn't compel reactor designers to take any specific action and lacks enforcement requirements.

``What if they do an assessment and it crumples like a piñata??'' said Lyman. ``Does it have to be fixed? There is no requirement to take action on the results.''

When the agency voted to go ahead with the proposal last April, Commissioner Gregory Jaczko was the only ``No'' vote. He said the proposal didn't require applicants ``to make one single design modification.'' And he criticized exempting already- approved designs.

In its comments, the Nuclear Energy Institute agreed that only new reactor designs should be required to do the risk analysis. The trade group said its members may voluntarily take part.

``Everyone will do an assessment,'' said the insitute's Heymer.

How many sodas have you had today? How about your kids? As of 2005, white bread was dethroned as the number one source of calories in the American diet, being replaced by soft drinks.

The average American drinks more than 60 gallons of soft drinks each year, but before you grab that next can of soda, consider this: one can of soda has about 10 teaspoons of sugar, 150 calories, 30 to 55 mg of caffeine, and is loaded with artificial food colors and sulphites. "Server in the Sky" global biometric database calmly announced

A vast intelligence program is to establish a global biometric database known as "Server in the Sky" that will collate and provide an " International Information Consortium" with access to the biometric measurements and personal information of citizens of the US, UK, Australia, Canada and New Zealand in the name of fighting the "war on terror".

As reported by the London Guardian , he plan is being formulated by the FBI with the cooperation of the home offices and law enforcement agencies of American allies.

Biometric measurements, irises or palm prints as well as fingerprints, and other personal information are likely to be exchanged across the network.

The FBI told the Guardian: "Server in the Sky is an FBI initiative designed to foster the advanced search and exchange of biometric information on a global scale. While it is currently in the concept and design stages, once complete it will provide a technical forum for member nations to submit biometric search requests to other nations. It will maintain a core holding of the world's 'worst of the worst' individuals. Any identifications of these people will be sent as a priority message to the requesting nation."

Of course as well as holding the information of the world's 'worst of the worst', the database will also eventually hold the records of every other citizen who has ever traveled in and out of the member states, or has ever been arrested with or without charge.

Wealthy may be next in line in home crisis

HINSDALE, Illinois (Reuters) - A house in this wealthy Chicago suburb is far beyond the reach of most Americans.

Unfortunately, Hinsdale may also now be too expensive for some of the people who already live here.

"There is a section of the population here that over-extended themselves to buy here and then keep up the facade of wealth," said Sharon Sodikoff, a broker associate at local real estate agency Prudential Homelife Realty. "In the next year or so they'll be forced out in dribs and drabs."

With a picturesque little downtown area and large, expensive houses -- according to the Headrick-Wagner Consulting Group, the average home sale price here in the 12 months to September 30, 2007, was around $1.15 million -- Hinsdale seems a world away from the housing slowdown that may have brought the U.S. economy to the brink of a recession.

But even here, far from the housing crisis' epicenter, high earners with good credit may be heading for trouble as their adjustable rate mortgages (ARMs) adjust beyond their means, local real estate agents and others say. In a normal housing market they'd be able to sell, but now they are stuck.

"The next wave of problems will come from prime borrowers who bought too much house or borrowed too much against it," said Michael van Zalingen, director of home ownership services at Neighborhood Housing Services of Chicago. A "prime" borrower is one with good credit.

Real estate agents warn that some high-income borrowers have already been forced to sell or leave their homes and more will follow. Especially those who used their homes as ATMs, withdrawing cash via home equity loans.

"For those who utilized home equity loans for five to ten years to finance their lifestyle, the chickens are coming home to roost," said Chicago-based real estate agent Marki Lemons.

There are also signs some lenders are warily eyeing "prime" borrowers. Tom Kelly, spokesman for Chase Home Lending, a unit of JPMorgan Chase & Co, said the company raised its reserves for possible home equity loan loss for subprime and prime borrowers by $635 million in the second and third quarters last year.

"The concern is people who have borrowed a large percentage of the equity (in their homes)," Kelly said. "Now the value of their homes is falling and they can't refinance."

"Some just stop paying and walk away," he added.

SHORT SALE

Getting into property during the boom was easy, with mortgages freely available for no money down.

Then came the subprime crisis and the credit crunch, slowing the market, pushing prices down and home inventories up. In Hinsdale, for instance, the supply of homes on the market rose to more than 17 months in early October from less than 6 months in January 2006.

While it's apparently a buyers' market, Lawrence Yun, chief economist at trade group the National Association of REALTORS, says high-end borrowers are put off by the high interest rates now applied to so-called "jumbo" mortgages, those for $417,000 or more.

"Potential buyers say 'no way am I buying at that price,'" Yun said. "If people can't enter the market, this slows everything down and puts pressure on foreclosures."

If some borrowers can't get into the market, there are others who can't sell to get out. Home owners who bought recently with no money down are the ones most likely to abandon a property when they fall behind on the mortgage.

"I've seen people who bought less than a year ago and have no equity in their homes simply walking away with no regard for the consequences," said Genie Birch, a real estate agent at Chicago-based Koenig & Strey GMAC who covers the city's wealthier districts.

Real estate agents say speculative investors who bought to make a profit are also walking away as the rents they charge fall behind the mortgage payments as their adjustable-rate mortgages readjust.

The home owners who find it harder to walk away are those who took out large home equity loans before prices started falling and now owe far more than their home is worth.

"It's difficult for home owners in that situation to sell as they'll still be left owing money," said Dave Hanna, managing partner of Prudential Preferred CRE, which owns Prudential Homelife Realty in Hindsale.

Unlike subprime borrowers, however, wealthy home owners are more likely to try to cut a deal with their lender, rather than end up in foreclosure. The alternative solution available to them is to opt for a short sale.

Under a short sale agreement, the borrower sells below the mortgage value and the lender writes off the difference. The lender gets less than originally anticipated, but is not stuck with a foreclosed property. The borrower's credit rating is damaged, but not as badly as if they had lost the home.

"You won't see many foreclosed homes here because that would involve public embarrassment," Prudential Homelife Realty's Sodikoff said. "But they will call their realtor and get them to quietly broker a deal to get out of their homes."
